Alsatian Impressions Choral Tour
On request
The Alsace region is well-known as one of the nicest French regions with a lovely countryside full of charming and picturesque villages.
Alsace is one of the 26 regions of France, located on the eastern border of France and on the west bank of the Upper Rhine, adjacent to Germany and Switzerland.
Its capital and largest city is Strasbourg. The city has a turbulent history with the 19th century bringing turmoil to the city which ended with the defeat of Napoleon III. After a six week siege on the city, which destroyed many buildings and monuments, Strasburg became part of the German empire only to return to France shortly after World War I in 1918. World War II again caused mass destruction in the city and the aggressive occupation by the Germans shaped the city once more with its germanization policy.
After the end of World War II Strasbourg regained its status as the crossroads of Europe when in 1949 it was chosen as the headquarters of the Council of Europe. Since 1979 it has been the seat of the 15-member European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights since 1994. Your choir will have time to explore this historic city with its cosy restaurants hidden in narrow streets, and the old Cathedral standing over this medieval town.
You will also have the opportunity to visit the famous city of Colmar. During the war, Colmar was caught in a zone of German resistance creating what was to be known as the "Pocket of Colmar". Colmar itself miraclously escaped destruction and can today offer one of the most charming city centers of Alsace.
