Discover North Germany on this unique Choral tour and visit the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region and the cities of Schwerin, Wismar, Guestrow and Rostock. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the sixth largest German state in size, but only the 14th in population. Its Baltic Sea coastline, islands, cities, as well as the Mecklenburg Lake District make this one of Germany's leading tourist destinations. On its north side Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has the Baltic Sea and in its Westside is Schleswig-Holstein. It is bordered by Poland on the eastside, and Brandenburg and Niedersachsen on the south.

The cities of North Germany are fine examples of Gothic brick architecture, and the imposing churches, the city gates and the town halls are all reminders of the heyday of the Hanseatic League and the prosperity of earlier times. For those interested in culture, a visit to the Schwerin State Theatre, the Schwerin Museum with its superb art collection is a must.

During your choirs stay, you will visit the towns of Schwerin, Wismar, Güstrow and Rostock and perform during a church service.

Schwerin is the state Capital and the second largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is also the old residential seat of the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The Schwerin Chateau is one of the most notable historic buildings in Germany and both this and the Schwerin Cathedral are good examples of the areas Gothic brick architecture. On your sightseeing tour you will see buildings such as the Regional Museum, the Alte Palais, the Marstall, and the State Theatre.

Wismar is the second largest port in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and was founded in the 13th century. It is a picturesque port and lies directly on the Baltic coast. Its charming historic Old Town is one of the best preserved medieaval town centers in North Germany.

Guestrow, once the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg, has retained its architectural variety with styles from brick Gothic style to Classicism. The chateau Guestrower Schloss is the most notable Renaissance chateau to have been preserved in North Germany. Rostock, founded in 13th. Century, sprawls over both sides of the Warnow. It has many historic sites including the Marien Church and the Holy Cross Monastery.

To speak of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is to speak of long beaches at the Baltic Sea, attractive lakes, never-ending plains and attractive towns with their Hanseatic history. Your choir will never forget its visit to this northern impression of Germany.
