Weimar is a beautiful 1,000-year-old town on the edge of the Thuringian Forest and is the perfect destination for those interested in history and culture. It has played an important role in the development of German culture and nowadays the town plays host to world famous exhibitions and is one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites. Great poets, composers and philosophers including Goethe, Schiller, Bach and Liszt have all left their mark on the town and everywhere you turn, you will find traces it's eventful history.
The Weimar International Choral Festival is a 3-day event. Main performances take place in the "Goethe-Hall" in the "Goethe School" where choirs choose their own repertoire and are required to sing one or two songs from their home country. There is also an option to perform in a social institution such as a senior citizens home, where choirs perform either a 30 or 60 minute concert. In addition, there is a further opportunity to sing during a mass/church service in or around Weimar.
The closing ceremony is performed in the Quality Hotel where choirs join together to sing "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's 9th Symphony.
